CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Please note that there will be 10-11 Classes taught during the Spring Session, depending on the day of the week.
 
SPRING 2015 CLASSES BEGIN THE WEEK OF MARCH 9, 2015, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THURSDAYS, WHICH WILL BEGIN ON MARCH 19 (DUE TO THE MINIMUM DAY DUE TO PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES FOR 1ST-5TH GRADE.
 
Note:   Our Goal is to give your Child the best experience (FUN and Educational) possible with all of our classes, as we build their skills and self-confidence.   Maximum Enrollment for each Class has been documented to help ensure the QUALITY of our Classes and the SAFETY of our Students.  When a class exceeds its maximum and we have a Wait List, we will do our best to schedule another Instructor or Assistant Instructor to accommodate the additional Students.  Please enroll your Child to be on our Wait List when that link is present; and we will monitor this.

MONDAYS
11 Classes: March 9-May 18, 2015

THE YOUNG ARTIST:  DRAWING AND PAINTING
Student will have a LOT OF FUN and get a GREAT ART EDUCATION.
 
KINDERGARTEN/JOURNEYS
Students will focus on skill building including how to draw and paint. This is an excellent class for beginners, as students will build a wide range of skills and learn a variety of ways to express themselves creatively. Students will begin to learn how to control their line quality (thickness of lines ) and learn about warm and cool colors, etc. as they create their own Works of Art.  New Projects for Spring Classes. Min/Max:  6/10
 
1ST-5TH GRADES
 Student  will be exposed to a variety of age appropriate art work that will inspire them. They will learn the basic elements and principles of art and design, including incorporating color theory ( warm and cool colors,).  They will practice drawing from observation of live objects such as looking at nature with all the wonders and colors.  Students will learn and practice basic watercolor and colored pencil application and techniques.   The emphasis is to provide students with a firm foundation in drawing, to build confidence in their individuality and encouragement to create their own Works of Art. New Projects for Spring Classes.  Min/Max:  6/15

 BASKETBALL FOR GIRLS WITH COACH DANTE (NEW!)
(Kindergarten/Journeys & 1st-5th)

Your Daughters will improve their Basketball skills by joining Coach Dante and the Ready 2 Hoop Basketball Academy.   This clinic style basketball class focuses on solid individual player fundamentals and organized team play.   All students participate in athletic basketball drills and play organized games each!  Drills and lessons will consist of dribbling, shooting, spacing, passing, team strategy and SPORTSMANSHIP!  Min/Max:  6/20 for K/J and Min/Max 6/30 for 1st-5th


CHEERLEADING/DANCE
(Kindergarten/Journeys & 1st-5th)
 
The day for Cheerleading changed from Thursdays to Mondays, but Catelynn will continue to be our Cheerleading Instructor.

Students will have TONS OF FUN  learning FUNdamental Cheerleading Skills as well as NEW choreographed dances and cheers.  Cheerleading moves that the Students will learn will include High V, Low V, T, etc.  Skills that will be taught include Kicks, Jumps, Spirit and TEAMWORK. Students will also be introduced to Cool Hip Hop Moves and possibly other Dance Genres that are of interest to the Students.   Benefits of the classes include enhancing memory and sequencing skills, preparation for more advanced Cheerleading and Dance classes and becoming increasingly fit.  The Students will warm-up and stretch at the beginning of each class.  No Aerials.  Parents will be invited to a Mini-Performance on the last day of class.  Min/Max:  Kindergarten/Journeys:  6/10; 1st-5th:  6/15


CHESS
(Kindergarten/Journeys & 1st-5th)

Learning and playing Chess will seem like fun and games to your children, but as they learn this game played by Kings, they will learn to focus and increase their concentration, build their memory and sequencing skills and enhance their problem solving skills; all are keys to their future academic success.  During this session, the Kindergarten/Journeys Students will learn the FUNdamentals of Chess including some basic strategies. For 1st-5th Grade Students, the skills taught will be based on the age and skill level of individuals and the group.   "Advanced Beginners" and "Intermediates" will learn more rules and more advanced strategies.

MOVIES BY KIDS

My First Music Video
(Kindergarten/Journeys)(NEW!)

 
Kids Wanted! We need your help to create a music video that captures all the excitement and fun of your first year of school. Students will choose the music, pick different school locations for filming, take part in a variety of movie-related activities, and, yes, starring in their own music video! In the end, each student or parent can log onto www.moviesbykids.com to view or download their music video, behind the scenes footage, bloopers, and more!  Document those precious first school years with “My First Music Video”.   Min/Max:  8/20
 
Minecraft Movies
(Grades 1st-5th)(NEW!)


Do you love Minecraft?  Join this exciting class where kids will design a Minecraft world using Legos, create their own crazy Minecraft characters out of clay & putty, then students will utilize provided iPods to create their own Minecraft movie and become the voices for all the characters.  Create monsters, creepers or your own personal hero to tackle the incredible environment that you create…  All student films will be available for viewing or downloading!

SOCCER (Coed)

Students will have TONS OF FUN while learning to play and/or enhance their Soccer skills.  Skills that will be taught and reinforced include dibbling, passing, shooting and Teamwork.   Mini-Games will be played to reinforce skills, develop teamwork, learn rules and to have have FUN.

5 STAR DANCE-N-YOGA (FUN-N-GAMES)(NEW!)
Kindergarten/Journeys and 1st-5th
This will be a "Combo Class" where Students will have Tons of Fun  as they:
1 "Move to the Groove":   This is a fun, fun, fun for all class for anybody and everybody, boys and girls who like to move to music. This class is a lot about the freedom of dance and letting loose!  Children will move to favorite  party dances  like the Macarena and play games like the Limbo.  Children will also learn how to listen to music and how to move with a group. The Dances and Games will depend on the age and skill level of the group. The focus will be on having the FUN as well as the freedom of moving and expressing through dance. This is a great way for kids to learn coordination, get a great workout, and just have FUN.
2.  Students will also be introduced to Yoga with music and pictures; as they learn to "calm down and relax" after dancing.  Yoga is one of the most beneficial activities your child can participate in.  The benefits are both physical and mental.  Through concentration, imagination, calming breath while imitating a series of fun and challenging postures, your child will gain strength, balance, poise and peace of mind.  Yoga is an excellent tool for building self confidence, diminishing anxiety and developing excellent body awareness for other activities such as athletics and dance.  Fantastic for all ages, boys and girls!
 
Then, on the last day of Class, we will "throw a party" and Parents will be invited to come and watch some of the Students'  favorite Dances and Yoga poses.

CREATIVE FIRE (is back)
 
Ceramics
(Kindergarten/Journeys and 1st-5th)
 
In this session of Ceramics, students will fabricate Musical Shakers, create an Action Figure, design a Custom Car, make a Candy Dish, and build a Creation of Their Imagination. Beats will shake, figures will take action, cars will be customized, candy will taste sweeter, and imaginations will soar to your child’s creativity!
Min/Max:: 10 min/25 max.
 
CROCHETING/KNITTING (FUN, New Projects for Winter) (1st-5th)

Discover the creative world of CROCHET/KNITTING. Have you ever wanted to learn to crochet/knit?  Well then, this is the class for you.
 
This session of CROCHET/KNITTING is great for new and returning students. Newcomers will learn this exciting craft while having loads of FUN.  In this class, Students will learn the basic Crochet stitches which they will use to make our new Spring  projects.  The Projects offered will depend on the individual/group and whether or not the Student already knows how to Crochet or Knit.  NEW Projects for Spring will be offered.
  For returning students, NEW crochet/knitting stitches will be introduced to make new and exciting projects.  Spark your creativity with fabulous projects that you can enjoy for years to come.  All materials are included in the class price.

GUITAR-BEGINNING (2nd-5th)
Students will have a lot of Fun in these small groups learning Guitar and some Music Theory as well as playing songs (up to 5 Students). The class will include rhythm and percussion activities, an introduction to reading music, guitar chords and basic music theory.  Guitars will be provided for each Student during Class, but we encourage Parents to purchase age/size appropriate Guitars for their Children so that they can also Practice at Home. Increasingly challenging chords and songs will be taught depending on the age and skill level of each Group.    Min/Max:  3/5 per class.


GYM FIT-N-FUN
(Kindergarten/Journeys and 1st-5th)

What could be more fun AND beneficial to Students than getting increasingly fit while learning new skills and reinforcing old ones.  Students will have a Lot of FUN as they develop/enhance their loco-motor skills, manipulative movements,  strength  instruction that includes rolls, cartwheels, jumping off of a Springboard, strength using Bars, balance using a Balance Beam and  body awareness.  Your Child will develop his/her coordination skills and confidence while building his/her strength and flexibility..  These will serve as “stepping stones” as they progress into more advanced Gymnastics and/or other Sports.  Skills taught will be based on the level of the group as each individual. Students will warm-up and stretch at the beginning of each class.  Min/Max:  Kindergarten/Journeys-6/10 and 1st-5th-6/12

MUSIC FUN:  INTRODUCTION TO INSTRUMENTS AND MOVEMENT
(Kindergarten/Journeys)

Students have a Lot of FUN learning the FUNdamentals of Music including Rhythm, Beat, basic Music Theory and various Age-Appropriate, Fun Songs to Sing and Move to.  They are introduced to a variety of Instruments that can include the Guitar, Keyboard/Piano and various Percussion instruments, and more. This Class will be FUN and can be a great "stepping stone" to choosing and learning to play a musical instrument.  Min/Max:  6/10

WEDNESDAYS

Acting/Improv
(Kindergarten/Journeys)
This Class is for both Students who are already outgoing and it may be an opportunity for the "shy" Child to build his/her confidence that may facilitate becoming more outgoing.
 
Students will have a Lot of FUN in this Class as they learn to use the three basic acting principles of voice, body and imagination to express themselves dramatically and comically.  You can expect that your Child will get silly in this Class as he/she develops his/her imagination.  This Class is designed to foster team building and self-confidence.  Students will go on imaginary adventures to far off places and will play theatre games designed to introduce the elements of stage acting.
 
For 1st-5th Grade Students:
Depending on the age and skill level of this group, in addition to the above, Students may also play improv games just like the ones from "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" or others that you may have seen at Comedy Clubs.  Improv is always 100% zany and is a haven for big personalities.  It's also a great confidence booster for any kid willing to be silly. 
 
The culmination will be a "show" incorporating many games and utilizing the audience, so parents can get in on the fun!
 
DANCE MANIA:  HIP HOP AND MORE FOR FUN & FITNESS
Kindergarten/Journeys
 
This class is designed for Students who want to have TONS of FUN and who are interested in developing their Dance techniques in Hip Hop including jumping, clapping,  turning and performing.  They will have TONS OF FUN warming up, stretching,  as well as learning at least two choreographed  Hip Hop routines.  The skills and dance routines taught will vary depending on the age and skill level of the group.  Parents will be invited to a Mini-Performance on the last day of class.  Min/Max  Kindergarten/Journeys-6/10 
 
 
DANCE MANIA:  HIP HOP & BREAKDANCING
(1st-5th)
This is a Combo Class where Students will learn Hip Hop and Breakdancing (with NO head spins).  They will have TONS OF FUN warming up, stretching,  as well as learning at least one choreographed  Hip Hop routine that includes jumping, clapping, and turning, etc. The skills and dance routines taught will vary depending on the age and skill level of the group. 
 
For Breakdancing, they learn how to move, groove, twist and turn their bodies in many different ways.  The FUNdamentals of dancing on their feet and on the floor with this introduction to breaking class will be taught. Breakdancing is a great way to have FUN and stay fit while learning to shine on the dance floor.  (Note:  We will NOT teach headspins).  Students will learn at least one dance rountine.  Parents will be invited to a Mini-Performance on the last day of class.   Min/Max:  1st-5th-6/14

 DYNAMIC SPORTS WITH COACH DANTE
(Kindergarten/Journeys & 1st-5th)

Have your child join Coach Dante and his/her athletic and social skills in this SUPER FUN after school program will be enhanced.  This unique class focuses on building strong hand-eye coordination, increasing gross motor skill development, teaching strategic thinking, team play and sportsmanship.  All students participate in amazing and fun games each week.  Games such as Dr. Dodge Ball, Capture the Flag, Slide, Matt Ball, Yoshi, Super Soccer AND More!  Min/Max:  6/40
 
MARTIAL ARTS
(Kindergarten/Journeys and 1st-5th)

Students  will enjoy learning the FUNdamentals of Martial Arts, including stance, punches, kicks and blocks.  They will warm-up and stretch at the beginning of each class and cool down at the end of class.  Emphasis will be placed on safety, the use of their new skills for self-defense only and respect.  The benefits of these classes will include learning self-discipline and focus as well as enhanced self-confidence and self-esteem.  Students will punch and kick pads; there will be no sparring in this class.  Students will be tested for their White Belt and/or Stripes on the last day of Class (Belt provided).  Min/Max:  6/15
 
PIANO (BEGINNING)
Kindergarten/Journeys & 1st-5th

Students will have a lot of Fun in this small group,  learning the Keyboard/Piano and to play songs.  The class will include rhythm and percussion activities, an introduction to reading music and basic music theory.  More advanced songs will be taught for returning Students.  A Keyboard/Piano will be provided for each Student. Parents will be invited to a "Mini-Recital on the last day of class).  Min/Max:  3/6 per class
 
SCIENCE FUN WITH NEW TOPICS AND EXPERIMENTS
(Kindergarten/Journeys & 1st-5th)

Enter a World of Science, where Students will have Tons of Fun as they get creative and learn through discussions and hands-on (safe) experiments.  These can include Chemistry,  Physics,  Energy and  more.    Other topics and Science Projects may  be based on the interests of the group.   Students will be introduced to the Scientific Method and will learn to make Hypotheses and evaluate whether or not they hypothesized correctly.  Science Projects will be based on the age and skill level of each group. 
 
During this Spring Session, Students will learn about and/or do experiments that teach about  the heart and how it functions, the ocean and sea animals, the water cycle, energy transfer, floating experiments, electricity, an introduction to solar energy and more..

CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH (BEGINNING)
(Kindergarten/Journeys and 1st-5th)
 
This Class is for both our prior Spanish Students AND for Students who have experience speaking and understanding Spanish from prior classes or at home.
 
Students will learn Conversational Spanish, the FUN way; through a variety of interactive activities such as through art, music, movement, storytelling and games.  This Class will build on the prior vocabulary, phrases, grammer and skills and will include a focus on pronunciation with the objective of learning the sounds of the consonants and vowels in Spanish, as they continue to converse in Spanish.
Every class will include a topic focused on sentences with questions and answers where students can practice with each other in order to get more comfortable with conversation in Spanish.
Min/Max:  6/10 Students for Kindergarten/Journeys and Min/Max:  6/12 for 1st-5th Grade.
 


FLAG FOOTBALL (NEW for Kindergarten/Journeys)

Join Coach Dante in this exciting Flag Football Program.  
 
Do you want your Child to learn the FUNdamentals of Flag Football?   This awesome after school class will teach all students the basic fundamentals required to play and understand flag football.  All students will participate in athletic drills and lessons that focus on positioning, route running, defensive footwork, pass and run blocking, team strategy, sportsmanship and GAMES!   The drills and skills taught will be based on the level of each group.  Min/Max:  6/20   
 
 
JUNIOR CHEFS SPRING 2015 SERIES:  FUN WITH DIFFERENT YUMMY AND HEALTHY FOODS 
(Kindergarten/Journeys and 1st-5th Grade)

In this FUN, HEALTHY and SAFE Cooking Class, Students will be introduced to  new flavors and techniques for students to enjoy in class and at home.  Class members will receive a Recipe Booklet, Apron, Chef Cap, Try-It Program Certificate, and Fine Manners Certificate at the final class.  Materials included,  Now, Let's Get Cooking! 
 
The Menu will include:
-Twice Baked Potatoes with Kale & Fontina Cheese
-Vegetable Lentil Soup served with Classic Parmesan Crisps

LEGO Engineering
Kindergarten/Journeys and 1st-5th Grade
Kids love to build & play with mechanized projects and structures that make their imaginations soar!  Lego Engineering is a project-based program that teaches students the principles and methods of engineering, architecture and science using Lego! Students  will build exciting NEW projects (e.g., mini robots, tanks, bridges and cable cars) that promote problem-solving skills, creativity, basic math concepts, self-reliance and self-confidence. And they have tons of fun while learning! Min/Max:  8/16
 
MUSIC:  SINGING FOR FUN AND PERFORMANCE (Kindergarten/Journeys; 1st-5th Grades)
 

Your Child will have a LOT OF FUN as he/she learns learns the joy of self expression through song!  With a focus on vocal tone, breath support, diction and posture, your child will gain confidence in his/her ability to perform solo and as part of a group.  We will select songs from musical theatre, Disney pictures and popular music to rehearse and prepare for performance.   In addition to singing skills, your child will gain practice in memorization of lyrics and simple choreography.  Singing in this format can develop individual self expression, confidence in front of a crowd and the joy of accomplishment as part of a team.
 
For the 1st-5th Grade Students, a Karaoke machine may be used to enhance your child’s learning experience.
 
You will be invited to  join us for a Mini-Performance on the last day of class.   Min/Max:  Kindergarten/Journeys:  6/10 and 1st-5th:  6/15
 
SPORTS MANIA:  TENNIS AND T-BALL
Kindergarten/Journeys

Students will have TONS OF FUN while learning to play T-BALL AND Tennis, as well as possibly others that the Students express an interest in learning. T-Ball Skills that will be taught and reinforced include running the bases, throwing and catching as well as hitting.  Mini-Games will be played.  TENNIS skills that will be taught will include Forehand, Backhand, Volleys, Rules and Scoring.  The children will warm-up and stretch at the beginning of each class.  Classes are FUN and SKILL DEVELOPMENT ORIENTED, not competitive  Min/Max:  6/10


VOLLEYBALL FOR GIRLS
(2nd-5th)

Girls will have a LOT Of FUN as they learn the FUNdamental skills so they  can learn to play for FUN with with friends and/or on a recreational Volleyball Team if they desire to do so.  Students will learn movement skills, eye-hand coordination, bumping, passing, spiking, serving and return of serve, rules and scoring.  Additionally, offense and defense will be taught with a focus on learning TEAMWORK. Mini-Games will be played.
